Camelot's Independent Living program is responsible for the coordination and implementation of Independent Living Services to older teens in the foster care system as they prepare to turn 18 years old as well as providing assistance to young adults who previously aged out of the foster care system. Services include: life skills training, education coordination, support services, job coaching, financial skills training. The goal of our Independent Living Program is to prepare teens in foster care for adulthood and self sufficiency. Each year, our Independent Living staff work with more than 1200 teens and young adults.

PROVIDES NEARLY 20,000 RESIDENTS IN ALACHUA AND BRADFORD COUNTIES THE HANDS-ON GUIDANCE, TOOLS, AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO GO FROM FINDING A JOB TO CREATING THEIR NEXT OPPORTUNITY.

The collection reflects the community's ethnicity, which is primarily African-American, Caribbean and Hispanic. The collection has a cache of 2,000 plus Black-themed books consisting of adult fiction, non-fiction and reference as a distinct section of the library. Black heritage material is available in all media for adults and children; bilingual material is in French and Spanish, and in Creole for children. The Youth Services section has a large collection of books and DVDs for children and teens, informative magazines to enhance reading skills, children-only computer banks, and a special section for Caldecott and Coretta Scott King award-winning books.
